If the death toll were only one, it would be heartbreaking too. But the number isn’t one; in fact, nearly 6,000 children worldwide under the age of 5 die every day from hygiene-related illnesses. That’s more than deaths from AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

Every day.

That’s where Clean the World Foundation (CTWF) comes in. The organization works to do something that is taken for granted in some parts of the world but not in those that comprise the 844 million people living without clean water. Operating in 127 countries around the world, CTWF commits to communities that need access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene, providing not just soap and water but education and training programs to implement sustained solutions.

In addition, CTWF helps local people in the communities they serve start their own businesses selling supplies like soap, washcloths and feminine hygiene supplies. This works to ensure that the communities do not need to rely on receiving aid in the long-term. In total, CTWF has distributed more than 50 million bars of soap, hygiene kits and other supplies, reducing deaths due to poor hygiene by an astonishing 60%.

“Something I, and perhaps you, have taken for granted our whole lives can save lives,” said Brian G. Tarpey, a 16-year MDRT member and the MDRT Foundation President. “The MDRT Foundation is looking forward to partnering with the Clean the World Foundation and their mission to provide universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene.”
