2002 Foundation Board

Allen R. Bruce, CLU, ChFCAllen R. Bruce, CLU, ChFC, of Silver Spring, Maryland, has been appointed the 2002 MDRT Foundation President.

Bruce, his officers, and the MDRT Foundation Board of Trustees, officially took office September 1, 2001.

"I look forward to the honor of continuing the Foundation's remarkable programs that my predecessors have successfully laid the ground work for. I don't really see this as 'my presidential year.' It's a team approach and I am just the captain of the Foundation Board Executive team," he said. "The Foundation Board agreed it's important to work as a team to provide continuity of programs in a sustained, steady approach in order to grow the Foundation in the most effective way."

Particularly, Bruce said, "We want to continue to focus on the Excalibur Society and the Inner Circle Society, which are designed to accommodate those members who wish to make significant annual gifts. Secondly, we will explore every avenue in making it advantageous for members outside of North America to make contributions to the MDRT Foundation."

Bruce is the 36th MDRT Foundation President and is a 25-year member of MDRT, with three Court of the Table qualifications. A Foundation Diamond Knight and founding member of the Inner Circle Society, he has been a Foundation Trustee since 1997. In addition to serving as a member of numerous MDRT committees, Bruce previously served as the Communications Divisional Vice President (DVP), the Membership Services DVP, the Public Relations Committee Chair and the Constitution & Bylaws Committee Chair. With the Foundation, he is currently serving as Chair of the Major & Corporate Giving Committee and previously served as the Quality of Life Grants Committee Chair.

Heavily involved in the industry, Bruce served as president of the Washington, D.C., Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the vice chairman of the association committee with the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, is a founding chairman of the African American Advisory Committee of the American College and serves as Secretary on the board of PLI Financial Services, Inc., a national African-American owned insurance and financial services organization.

In 1996, he was presented with the Washington, D.C., Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors highest award, the Bernard L. Wilner Memorial Award, for a lifetime contribution to the industry and his community. Also, he was honored in 1995 with the W. Elwood Baker Award, presented by the Greater Washington, D.C., chapter of SFSP for his contribution to the enhancement of education of the financial services field.

He has been married to his wife, Julia, for 29 years, and they have two children.
