(September 4, 2002) Mitchell W. Ostrove, CLU, ChFC, of White
Plains, New York, was named the 2003 MDRT Foundation President. Ostrove,
his four other officers and 15-member MDRT Foundation Board of Trustees,
officially took office on September 1, 2002.
Ostrove is the
38th MDRT Foundation President. His focus will be to carry forward with
the successful planning done by the Foundation Board of Trustees. “I
want to encourage MDRT members around the world to get out and share
the Foundation story,” said Ostrove. He also wants to increase the number
of corporate partners. “We are truly grateful for all the support we
have received from companies in the industry, and we want to continue
to cultivate these relationships.”
The president of
The Ostrove Group Incorporated, he is a 34-year MDRT member, with six
Court of the Table and five Top of the Table qualifications, designations
reserved for producers who have achieved the highest levels of service.
A significant financial contributor to the MDRT Foundation, he is a
Foundation Diamond Knight and Inner Circle Society Patron and has been
a Foundation Trustee since 1998.
His other Foundation
contributions include serving as the Board Liaison on the 2002 Major
Gifts Committee, Phonathon Committee and Circle of Life Committee; 2001
Finance & Investment Committee and Grants Committee; 2000 Major
Gifts Committee and Gift of Life Insurance Program Task Force. He was
also a member of the 2001 and 2002 Global Gift Fund Committee and the
1999 Silent Auction Committee. In addition, he is a Gift of Life Insurance
Program policy donor and Phonathon volunteer. In 1995, Ostrove also
received the top Quality of Life Grant Award from the MDRT Foundation
of $10,000 for the New Rochelle Youth Bureau.
In addition to
his Foundation involvement, Ostrove, has always been heavily involved
with the MDRT Annual Meeting. Most recently he served as the 2001 Program
Development Committee Chair. He has also been a member of the Program
Development Committee, the Main Platform Speaker Liaison Committee,
First Time Orientation Task Force as well as an Afternoon Session Moderator
and two-time Annual Meeting speaker. His MDRT standing committee history
includes serving on the Top of the Table Advisory Board, as Chair of
the Productivity Committee in 1997, and as a member of the Finance Committee,
the Business and Educational Task Force and the Sales Ideas Committee.
An industry leader,
Ostrove has served as president of the Westchester County Chapter of
CLU, the Westchester Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors
(AIFA) and the Westchester Estate Planning Council. He has also served
as an LUTC Advanced Sales Course instructor and a Life Underwriters
Political Action Committee Diplomat.
Ostrove’s many
awards include Bernard Mayer Associates’ Man of the Year, the Westchester
AIFA’s Fred E. Hamilton Award, The Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s
Humanitarian Award and the Union Central Lester A. Rosen Humanitarian
and Achievement Award.
Ostrove is a graduate
of Cornell University and is heavily involved in numerous temple and
community activities and boards. These activities include work with
Temple Israel, Cornell University, New Rochelle Medical Center, University
Club of New Rochelle, New Rochelle Cable TV Advisory Committee, City
of New Rochelle, youth basketball coach, Albert Einstein College of
Medicine, New Rochelle Foundation, Hillel of Westchester and the UJA/Federation.
He has been married to his wife, Carole, for 38 years, and they have
two children.

Jerry D. Semler,
CLU, chief executive officer and chairman of American United Life Insurance
Company, Indianapolis, Indiana, is a Trustee Emeritus.
The MDRT Foundation
was created in 1959 to provide Round Table members with a means to give
back to their communities. Since its inception, the Foundation has donated
in excess of $9 million to more than 1,300 worthy charities around the
world. The majority of these funds were raised by MDRT members from
MDRT members. Some of the other organizations that have benefited from
MDRT Foundation grants are: Make-a-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity
and the American Paralysis Association.
