Newsroom Walk on the Wild Side In 1990 James V. Hunt, CLU, ChFC, of Nashville, Tennessee, went on a photo safari in Africa with his two sons. While there, he became extremely interested in animal preservation. "I was really hurt in my heart when I saw the devastation of animals in Africa," Hunt said. When he returned to Nashville, he began volunteering at an animal park on the outskirts of Nashville. At the time, Nashville didn't have a city zoo. Through his and others' work, that all changed when the city of Nashville presented them with 200 urban acres to develop. The Nashville Zoo now has been open for three years, although Hunt says it will be 20 years before it's completely finished. "During the next five years, I'll keep balancing my time at the zoo with my time at work," Hunt said. "I volunteered for other organizations before, and while they were all good causes, none of them—for me—were as much fun as the zoo." In the past, Hunt has been president of several organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Nashville, the American Cancer Society and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Return to "Foundation Knight Leads a Wild Life."
