April’s Charity of the Month: Norris Cotton Cancer Center

Cancer survival rates are increasing. Today, there are more than 10 million cancer survivors living in the United States. On March 29, U.S. President George W. Bush proclaimed April as Cancer Control Month to increase cancer prevention and control awareness.

On March 31, 2006, 15-year MDRT member Stephan A. Elliott, CLU, ChFC, of South Rygate, Vermont, presented a $2,500 grant to Norris Cotton Cancer Center–North (NCCN) – one of the nation’s premier facilities for cancer treatment and research. This Quality of Life grant was awarded on behalf of Elliott’s volunteer work for NCCN. As a campaign community ambassador, Elliott was actively involved with NCCN’s community fundraising campaign to fund the project costs of this new cancer treatment facility in St. Johnsbury and Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, New Hampshire.

NCCN offers advanced radiation therapy, latest cancer therapies and clinical trials to residents of northeastern Vermont and northwestern New Hampshire. NCCN treats all types of cancer, and in a typical year, more than 1,400 newly diagnosed cancer patients receive care at NCCN.

NCCC coordinates all cancer care and research with Dartmouth–Hitchcock Medical Center. Currently, nationally recognized scientists are involved in more than 260 active cancer research projects with the hope of advancing the cure for cancer.
