The MDRT Foundation awarded a $2,500 Quality of Life grant to the Massachusetts Prostate Cancer Coalition (MPCC) on behalf of Allen L. Snyder III, CLU, ChFC, a 30-year MDRT member and Bronze knight from Boston, Massachusetts. This grant will be used to fund MPCC’s annual Prostate Cancer Symposium.

In 2004, more than 500 people took part in the MPCC’s Prostate Cancer Symposium. Many of the attendees traveled from New England, New Jersey and New York. The symposium’s goal is to provide the most accurate and current information on prostate cancer and related medical research and treatments.
Snyder, a prostate cancer survivor, serves as MPCC president and was awarded the Quality of Life grant because of his tireless volunteer efforts to raise awareness for prostate cancer research.

“Snyder has been instrumental in shaping the organization, as well as recruiting talented individuals to serve on behalf of the cause,” said Judy L. Green, MPCC executive director. “Through his personal outreach, he has been responsible for recruiting new members to MPCC, which has grown in the last year from under 20 to nearly 200 members.”

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death among men in the United States, and according to the National Cancer Society, approximately 230,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. More than 30,000 will die from this disease because of late detection and lack of preventative treatment.

MPCC, founded in 2001, is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing information and education about prostate cancer for newly diagnosed individuals, survivors and their families as well as for health care professionals. MPCC sponsors research on prostate cancer, in collaboration with local hospitals and various health care providers, with the primary goal of increase funding for prostate cancer education and research.
