MDRT Foundation Grant Offers

Hope and Dignity to Terminally Ill

Each morning Francis House comes alive with the bustling energy of volunteers who prepare delicious home-cooked meals, and carry out a daily meticulous cleaning routine throughout the house. However, their most valuable volunteer time is the quality moments they spend with the terminal residents who reside in Francis House.

Shah spends some quality time with a Francis House resident.

This year the MDRT Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to Francis House — a residential home that provides 24-hour care and comfort to people with terminal illness.  This grant was sponsored by Mansukh J. Shah, ChFC, CLU, a 27-year MDRT member from Syracuse, New York. Shah has volunteered for Francis House since 1998.

The residents at Francis House come from all kinds of backgrounds. But they all share the same reality of a terminal illness diagnosis. Despite this sad reality, despair does not live in Francis House. Hope, love and dignity can be found throughout the communal areas and in each of the rooms where residents receive support and comfort during this difficult time.

Since its founding in 1991, Francis House has provided a home and extended family to more than 1,000 residents. Along with supporting the needs of the residents, Francis House also provides a support system for family members who are often over-whelmed by the diagnosis of their family member.
