July's Charity of the Month:

Deepwood Foundation

William Robertson received a $10,000 Quality of Life Award for his exemplarily volunteerism with Deepwood Foundation.

On a freezing cold Sunday morning in March, William C. Robertson, CLU, ChFC, a 19-year MDRT member from Mentor, Ohio, arrived energetically to manage registration for an annual 5K fundraising event. This is just one example of the ways in which Robertson shows his commitment to Deepwood Foundation, a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with mental retardation.

During the MDRT Annual Meeting in June, 2007 MDRT Foundation President Mark S. Jones, a 29-year MDRT member from Houston, Texas, presented Robertson with a $10,000 Quality of Life grant in honor of his many years of volunteerism with Deepwood Foundation.

For the last 10 years, Deepwood Foundation has been promoting community awareness and creating opportunities for people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities throughout Ohio. This grant will be used fund the Advocacy program, which will increase the number of available staff to provide outreach and resources to individuals and families affected by developmental disabilities.

Robertson has volunteered for Deepwood Foundation as a trustee for the last six years and has also served as chairman of the board (2002-2005) and treasurer (2005-2006). In addition, Robertson has offered valuable financial insight and expertise to Deepwood Foundation during his six years of volunteering for the Benefits and Finance Committee.

“[Roberston] takes his commitments earnestly and has been a remarkable volunteer to the organization,” explained Rikke S. Coach, executive director of Deepwood Foundation. “No job is too big or too small… [Robertson] has extended himself both professionally and thoughtfully to help create opportunities for this organization.”
