April's Charity of the Month: Hope Haven International Ministries

For the past 15 years, Hope Haven International Ministries (HHIM), a program of the U.S.-based nonprofit organization Hope Haven, has been delivering hope and opportunity to villages and towns around the world, where people live in devastating conditions and having a wheelchair is an unimaginable luxury.

Hope Haven’s mission is to assist persons with disabilities reach their full potential. HHIM provides the opportunity for greater independence through its wheelchair refurbishment and distribution programs. Since this global initiative was developed in 1994, HHIM has delivered 75,000 free wheelchairs to people in 105 countries. The program’s recent growth into Central America is an exciting expansion for the organization.

The MDRT Foundation awarded a USD 5,000 grant to Hope Haven International to sponsor 28 pediatric wheelchairs to be distributed in the developing nation of Guatemala. This grant was sponsored by Charlene K. Granstra, CLU, ChFC, an 8-year MDRT member from Rock Valley, Iowa.
