ASAE Honors Million Dollar Round Table/MDRT Foundation with Power of A Summit Award

ASAE, The Center for Association Leadership, presented the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) and the MDRT Foundation with The Power of A Summit Award for the Million Meal Challenge, a volunteer food-packaging event that took place at the 2010 MDRT Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Power of A Summit Award is the highest industry award honoring associations that engage in activities and initiatives that are essential to a stronger America and world.

During the 2010 Annual Meeting, members of MDRT united in an effort to alleviate world hunger. The goal of the Million Meal Challenge, MDRT’s largest-ever volunteer event, was to package and send one million rice-based meals to children and families suffering from malnutrition in impoverished communities worldwide. More than 2,300 MDRT members volunteered for a two-hour food packing shift during the meeting. Volunteers from the United States, Canada, India, Japan, China and several other countries showed a unified effort which literally saved lives due to chronic hunger in many regions around the world.

“The Million Meal Challenge is just one of the many charitable efforts we undertake at MDRT and we feel it is important to provide our members with opportunities that allow them to give back to their communities and improve the world around them,” said India A. Ehioba, executive director of the MDRT Foundation. “It was inspiring to see MDRT members work toward a common goal and make a big difference in the lives of so many people in need — MDRT greatly appreciates this recognition from ASAE. ”

A total of six Power of A Summit Awards were bestowed at ASAE’s The Power of A Summit Awards dinner on October 5, 2011, at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. A complete list of winners is available at www.ThePowerOfA.org/awards.

“MDRT’s Million Meal Challenge epitomizes how associations are committed to making meaningful contributions to society,” said John H. Ganoe, CAE, Association Management Group, Inc., chair of The Power of A Awards Judging Committee. “It illustrates in a substantive, tangible way how the dedication of association professionals and association members across the country and around the world can help others.”
