July's Charity of the Month:
Hephzibah Children's Association

Hephzibah Children's Association, based in Oak Park, Illinois, received a Worldwide grant for $5,000 USD to create a safe home for children who do not have one of their own. The grant was sponsored by Millard J. Grauer, CLU, ChFC, a 46-year member and Silver Knight from Northbrook, Illinois.

Hephzibah provides short- and long-term group homes, child welfare and family services, day care and foster care for children. The MDRT Foundation grant will support the Enrichment Fund designated for children's activity fees at the two therapeutic group homes. "Learning a skill allows the children to have a sense of pride, a feeling they rarely experience," explained Dena Eppelheimer, corporate giving officer, Hephzibah Children's Association. "Hephzibah works strongly to find the untapped skills the children possess and then nurture and encourage those talents. For children who suffer from low self-esteem and are afraid to try new things, finding a skills that they excel at is empowering."

Representing the MDRT Foundation, Grauer presented this grant to Hephzibah on May 7, 2004, during Hephzibah's 4th Annual Let's Go to Kiddieland! event.
