The MDRT Foundation is pleased to announce the following Quality of Life Award winners for 2006. Annually, only 26 recipients are selected for the award granting a total of $110,000 to charities in the name of 26 MDRT member volunteers.

 

$25,000 Grant

$25,000 grant provides programs to improve end-of-life care for pediatric patients through continuing education programs for oncology care staff at Children's Hospital Boston

Alex's Team Foundation: Andover, Massachusetts

 

$10,000 Grants

Volunteer: David J. Feldman, CLU, ChFC

$10,000 grant supports the Volunteers for Vision Program to help 550 blind or visually impaired individuals improve their daily living skills

Massachusetts Association for the Blind Community Services: Brookline, Massachusetts

$2,500 grant supports YMCA teen programs various after-school activities to encourage teens to become positive and productive members of their community

YMCA of Amarillo: Amarillo, Texas

$2,500 grant supports the School of Character education initiative, which allows teachers to incorporate the importance of good character into their existing curriculum

Character Council of Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky: Cincinnati, Ohio

$2,500 grant provides developmental and support services to children and their families living with autism, developmental disabilities and complex learning disabilities

Wildwood Foundation: Schenectady, New York

$2,500 grant supports the YMCA Teen Leadership Initiative, which provides skill and character-building teen programs

YMCA of Greater Springfield: Springfield, Massachusetts

$2,500 grant supports St. Bernadette’s Community Clinic in administering eye examinations and the purchase of eyeglasses prescribed for its clients

Lourdes Foundation: Lafayette, Louisiana

$2,500 grant funds the new Cancer Center that will offer both medical and radiation oncology treatment

Cottage Hospital - Norris Cotton Cancer Center North: St. Johnsbury, Vermont

$2,500 grant supports the Making a Smile Happen mobile dental clinic, which provides affordable dental services to children and adults in five rural underserved counties

Dreams Foundation: Newburgh, New York

$2,500 grant supports Camp Willson's sponsorship program, offering low-income and homeless children the opportunity to attend camp based on a sliding-fee scale

YMCA of Central Ohio: Columbus, Ohio

Haven of Rest Ministries: Akron, Ohio

$2,500 grant funds the creation of a Distraction Station for children undergoing treatments at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, and the therapeutic horseback riding programs at Pegasus Therapeutic Riding serving children in nine counties within the Connecticut and New York border

$2,500 grant supports a Habitat for Humanity home build project taking 10 high school youth to Portland, Maine, to help build a home for a homeless family
